About ARAS
ARAS (Adult Reading Assistance Scheme) is an organisation of 300 - 400 students and tutors. ARAS provides one-to-one tuition with reading, writing, spelling, numeracy and basic computer skills. ARAS also helps adults with their individual needs(e.g Driver's Licence, CV and more). Please contact ARAS if you think you may need help.
ARAS has a long history with adult literacy. ARAS has been providing voluntary tutoring services for 32 years and workplace services for 18, all in Christchurch and the North Canterbury region.
ARAS uses volunteer tutors who tutor on a one-to-one or small group basis. Maybe you could help us. ARAS currently needs volunteer tutors. If you think that you have something to offer please contact ARAS and become a volunteer tutor. Training and support are given. Tuition takes place in a relaxed and informal environment.
ARAS is supported by other community organisations such as Literacy Aotearoa, The Community Trust, Canterbury Public Library, The Christchurch City Council and more. ARAS also receives major support from Friends of ARAS Inc. who help provide finance and other resources to enable ARAS to continue its leading role in enhancing literacy. You can help - become a Friend of ARAS.
This support also comes from the corporate community. The Friends
of ARAS page has a full list of organisations that support
us. Maybe your organisation could help.
